Supervision

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor-Associate

Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist-Associate

Clinical Supervisor Intern

Approach to Supervision

My model of supervision is the Bernard Discrimination Model, which means throughout supervision I am evaluating my supervisees’ development, knowledge, skills, emotional response, and professional growth. During a supervision session, I may provide emotional support, consultation, education, or skills building, depending on what arises in the supervision session. My goal is for supervision to be a safe space where supervisees can discuss anything affecting their work as a counselor. I am not your therapist and will provide referrals if I feel therapy is needed for the supervisee.

According to NC Administrative Code, each supervision must include “raw data from clinical work which is made available to the supervisor through such means as direct (live) observation, co-therapy, audio and video recordings, and live supervision” (21 NCAC 53 .0208). After reviewing raw data, we will discuss what went well, suggestions on interventions to use with the client, and what you need to work on in regards to skills. I maintain a supervision log where I document what is discussed in each supervision session, along with direct/indirect hours. This is to ensure the supervisee is not going beyond numbers of hours per supervision session. My goal as a supervisor is to assist the supervisee in professional growth, to problem solve difficult cases, learn new skills, and enhance their case-conceptualization skills. For CSI supervision, I require raw data so that I may observe your supervision skills and provide feedback.

Fees

Individual and triadic supervision sessions will last 1 hour. Group supervision is 2 hours. Currently, I charge $50 for supervision for ASU CMHC alumni. I charge $75 for non-ASU CMHC alumni. I do not decrease this fee if you are in triadic or group supervision. The fee for CSI supervision is $80 for ASU CMHC alumni and $100 for non-ASU alumni.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
